“Food is symbolic of love when words are inadequate.”
-Alan D. Wolfelt
There is something about the people of this city and their intense love for food. Not only are they home to some of the most delightful cuisines, also do they embrace wholeheartedly anything and everything otherwise. The Italian Consulate in collaboration with some of the top restaurants of the city is celebrating the Italian Week (on till 27th November 2016), a week-long celebration of Italian Cuisine with some of the best Italian Chefs around. The city bloggers had the pleasure of lunching at Baan Thai, Oberoi Grand on this occasion. Italy on a Plate, as they call the festival has the entire menu curated by Chef Francesco from Roma, Italy who is heading the Italian restaurant at Oberoi Mumbai.
We started our Italian Sojourn with the Fresh Burrata made beautifully with Asparagus, Asparagus Meringue and Asparagus Sorbet. For those who do not know, Burrata, meaning ‘buttered’ in Italian, is a fresh Italian cheese made of mozzarella and cream. Chef Francesco also mentioned that a Burrata is very commonly combined with Asparagus in Italy. The Primo or the main course consisted of the Tomato and Honey Risotto garnished with Pinenuts and Herbs. This was a clear winner among all of us and quite deserving indeed. This northern Italian rice dish maintained the right balance between the tomatoes and the other ingredients. The Pinenuts provided the necessary amount of crunch and the local herbs added to the aftertaste. Last, but not the least we finished our Italian gastronomical journey with the White Chocolate Tortino with served with Fresh Fruits. Tortino is a self-saucing pudding which in this case had a white chocolate filling and was absolutely heavenly.
The specially curated Italian menu at Baan Thai, Oberoi Grand has a wide choice of vegetarian and non vegetarian options. The festival is on till 27th November and should definitely not be missed.
