Incorporating the Corporate Saree

It has been almost three years now since I have been working in a corporate office. One thing that remained unchanged in all these three years was my work wear. I have always stuck to western formals and occasionally switched to Indian Tunics, but never have I really experimented with the nine yards at work. I did indeed wear the saree on Ethnic days, but never took them as Business Formals. Very recently I decided to incorporate the saree to my work wardrobe more frequently, therefore tried experimenting with different styles to give it the formal twist.

One of the biggest concerns I usually have is with the blouse. I feel the regular round necked styles do not go well with corporate dressing. Also, it is essential to have something sober yet with great fit in order to avoid looking sloppy. Hence, I decided to team the saree with a Lycra top with collars. The collars give the outfit the formal twist. Since I am wearing a top instead of a regular blouse, I had no qualms about thin pleats of the “pallu” which makes the entire drape look neat and office worthy.

The Saree is a Block Prints on Silk from Ethnik Yarn, one from there recent collection. This is a very light no-nonsense saree and if you notice, the shoulder pleats and front pleat have different yet complimentary block prints.
