#Nomnom : Restaurant Week India at Pan Asian, ITC Sonar


After a super successful first year in Kolkata, Restaurant Week India is back in action in the City of Joy till 1st May 2016. Among the many participating restaurants I chose Pan Asian, ITC Sonar for my lavish 3 course dinner.

Before I delve deeper into my experience,  here’s a brief about Restaurant Week 2016.
Restaurant Week India is a week long festival where different restaurants across the country participate to provide a three course meal at an affordable price. The reservations are to be made from the official Restaurant Week website complete via online payment (900 INR + taxes per person).

I have always loved the restaurants at ITC Sonar and had been meaning to visit Pan Asian since quite sometime. The restaurant gives out the perfect oriental vibe with minimally chic decor. I was provided with a special Restaurant Week menu card which had set choices for the Starters, Main Course and Dessert. The wonderful Chef at Pan Asian suggested me the the Fish Takrai for starters. This Thai delicacy is crispy fried fresh water fish with garlic, chilly paste and mildly flavored with Kaffir lime. I love the mild aroma of the lime and the slight punch of the chilly paste and garlic. It was indeed quite lovely. For the main course I was suggested the Xwan thou wu chong xhau chi – su xai (stir fry chicken with garlic and spring onions), Phad bai kra prow vegetables (stir fry with hot basil chilly n garlic) along with Vegetable braised noodles. Since I cannot handle too much of a spice content, this was perfect for my taste, though I felt the stir fry vegetables were a little too low on spice, but complimented well when combined with the stir fry chicken. Last but not the least, I had Date Pancake for dessert. It was a lot like date stuffed Darsan with Vanilla Ice cream.

While I was devouring my dessert, came in a gorgeously presented bowl with a heavy smoke of dry ice. I was taken by surprise since I has not ordered anything else. It turned out to be a special gesture from the Chef, consisting of chilled Thai Litchis. No points for guessing how overwhelmed and touched I was!
