On this note, Jan 21st 2016 saw literature lovers of the City of Joy gathering on a chilly winter evening to witness the inauguration of the fifth edition of the Tata Steel Kolkata Literary Meet at the Victoria Memorial Hall. Present at the event was legendary actor Soumitra Chatterjee, author Samaresh Majumder along with other dignitaries of Tata Steel.
Mr Koushik Chatterjee GED, Finance and Corporate, Tata Steel addressed the audience, touch basing on the social, cultural and literary activities organised by Tata Steel which included promoting the tribal culture through various cultural events. “At Tata Steel, it is our endeavour to associate with events that help to leverage the ethos of society”, he said.
The 5-day literary meet, which will be open to all literature lovers from 21st to 26th January 2016 was formally inaugurated by Mr Soumitra Chatterjee and Mr Samaresh Majumder by the customary signing of the canvas. This was followed by them addressing the gathering. “For once we have a five-day long event where literature lovers can meet and discuss about various issues through different sessions. This is indeed unique and was much needed”, said author Samaresh Majumder. He emphasised on the importance of regional literature. Soumitra Chatterjee spoke on similar lines. “Tata Steel Kolkata Literary Meet has given the young generation an opportunity to create diverse language and literature”, he mentioned in his speech.
The inauguration ended with a vote of thanks by Ms. Malavika Banerjee, Director- Gameplan.
