Arabian Business website reveals that Dubai aims to be number one tourist destination by the year 2020 (Arabian Business, 29th May 2013). This will definitely happen since Dubai tends to be the host of the Expo 2020, and UAE are preparing fiercely for it. But you don’t have to wait that long to get the taste of this amazing place. Here are some of the best things you can do in order to enjoy Dubai and shop on your way.
Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall
The best way to reach this place is to take the Red line of the amazingly clean Dubai metro line and reach the station named Dubai Mall. The pedestrian tunnel will take you to the Dubai Mall. This is where you need to wear some comfy shoes, as this place is huge and it takes the entire day to go through all the shops. Dubai Mall is the largest mall on this side of the world. All the biggest fashion designers have their stores there and you’ll be able to check out Armani, Versace and D$G stores from up close in the Fashion Avenue. You can enjoy the Aquarium and the Underwater Zoo as well as the famous Ice Rink there. However, once the clock strikes 5pm, go to the pond just outside the mall and find a place in a restaurant that has the view of the lake and the Burj Khalifa. It will be very busy because the lake has a fountain that starts dancing to the music on ever half an hour starting from 6pm on weekends.
After being amazed by a magnificent Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa, take a day off for a different experience at the Madinat in Jumeirah. This place is built to resemble the old souks. The architecture and the shops are designed so that they resemble the ancient and traditional atmosphere of the old marketplace. This is the place where you should try and find the shops that have the amazing Arabic perfumes. Every woman should try wearing those at least once in their lifetime. You can also enjoy the out of this world resort in Madinat, with a private beach and a lot of wonderful palm trees that supply you with the much needed shade.
Dubai Marina has, perhaps, the longest and the most pleasant pedestrian zone in Dubai. The stunning architecture and numerous malls and restaurants make it a nice place to visit and spend an afternoon. However, if you are staying in Dubai for a bit longer, this is also the place where you can go jogging in the evening. If you want to stay fit, make sure that you choose your own personal trainer in Dubai. The weather here is very hot and different from what you are used to. You need somebody with experience to help you stay hydrated and in shape.
The best way to visit the souks and to catch a glimpse of Dubai from the sea is to take the ferry from the Marina to the Dubai Creek. After an hour long ride in the air conditioned ferry, you will reach the Al Ghubaiba station. The glorious Dubai souks are on the other side of the creek. For a touristy touch, take one of the abras to take you across the creek. This is the cheapest ride you’ll ever get and the abras are traditional wooden taxi boats. The ride is short and authentic. The amazing shopping and bargaining experience awaits for you in those souks. The spice souk, the gold souk and the textile souks are the tree places that you cannot miss. Whatever you do, don’t agree on the first price.
Shopping, keeping fit and enjoying the new and the old Dubai are quite possible to do at the same time. The culture and the tradition of this amazing city allow it. Therefore, plan your days accordingly and don’t miss out on anything.
