Among the many things I love doing, experimenting with my style takes a major part. When the US-based apparel brand Nautica asked me to review their Spring-Summer ’15 collection, I was open to an absolutely different kind of styling that I was otherwise used to. “Nautica” whose name has been taken from the word “Nauticus” meaning Naval, houses a style inspired by seamanship.
I reviewed the women’s wear collection at their store in South City Mall, Kolkata. Stripes and bold colors dominated the rest. The collection has an abundance of Navy and Royal blues living up to the naval essence of Nautica. I created three looks out of their collection.
Look 1: The Nautical Dream
I tried taking out my innate girlie self through this look. Making the best of the recent rage of similar prints, I teamed a monochrome striped magyar sleeve tee with a maxi skirt. I accessorized my outfit with an oversized silicone strap watch by the same brand.
Look 2: Brightly Androgynous
I channeled my androgynous side in my own way (well, I do tend to be schizophrenic sometimes). Sticking through the bold colors of the season, I teamed a pair of Nautica jeggings with a color – blocked vest and a summer jacket. My favorite part of this outfit would be the pants which fitted like a dream.
Look 3: Ay Ay Sailor
This look is true to Nautica’s naval spirit where I teamed the same pants in the previous look with a navy blue top. I broke the dullness with a pop of color by accessorising with an orange silicone strap Nautica watch.
Besides the above, the South City Mall store houses solid colored shorts and A-line dresses for Summer.
What I loved most:
I absolutely fell in love with the fabric. All the apparel are made of high quality fabric and are so soft that you could almost sleep in them. The designs are casual with an oomph. The use of bright colors have a perfect balance with the crisp and casual cuts and design. In case you are new to the brand, you must know that the sizes are extremely versatile with the larger sizes quite large indeed.
What could have been better:
Most of the dresses at the South City Mall store were sans sleeves. For someone who might not be comfortable in sleeveless, that would mean putting on a jacket every time. But they did have some extremely chic topwear with sleeves.
All in all, the Spring-Summer’15 collection at Nautica is absolutely summer friendly. It could be passed on as Comfort with Style, must-buy if you are looking for breathable clothing.
And well, that is a happy shopper!
